Our team had 3 goals in mind when we started in October. We wanted to raise awareness to women's reproductive health and mental health. Our school lacked basic female necessities. We would use the restroom, and if we were menstruating there was no place to throw away our trash in the stalls, so we would have to take it out to the big bin in the restroom (GROSS RIGHT?!). Aside from that, we also did not have tampon/pad dispenser in either of our restrooms. This was the first project we worked on, we wrote letters to our principal, and she then took it to the local district personnel to help us get those items installed in the restroom. We then focused on putting together small Feme Kits for other girls outside our school. We had a few baskets delivered to a couple middle schools, and other local continuation schools. Our biggest project was our Wooden Closet. This closet we built by collecting donations from the staff and students at our school, and we purchased our hygiene products with our funds. This closet is now open and has served our fellow student community. We hope that this continues to run even after we graduate and move on. We feel our mental health already takes a toll by the stresses of school work, and we didn't want kids who may be going through a time of need to add to their mental load. We did out best to make our community feel like this is a safe space and if they ever needs clothes or hygiene products that they could come to our closet.
